Teaser demo is now 95-98% done - now working on marketing
Big update -
It’s been about two weeks since I last updated, and it’s primarily because I’ve been making the final push in development. That means iterations of play tests and development based on those play tests.
While I have a list of bugs I still need to tackle, it’s great that the feedback is becoming more specific. When I first started, the feedback was along the lines of “I don’t understand what’s going on” to pointing out specific bugs, e.g., “The UI elements are overlapping in phone view.”
You can see the current version of the game here!
There’s a bunch of things that I added on, particularly:
Story line to frame the context of the game
Reworked the player stats, so that temp, thirst, and hunger aren’t all going down at the same time
A journal that reports what you’ve found, how you’ve died, etc. (See screenshot below)
The first page of the journal shows the items you’ve found, the second, the ways how you’ve died, and the third, the places you’ve visited.
I had also attempted to add on more tiles (6 of them to be exact), but had to abandon it after several hours of development, because it added on additional complexity. I would’ve had to dedicate much more development time to address it. As this will be a teaser demo, I think where this is at is good enough.
But enough of development - the game itself is half the battle. The other half is marketing. And so I’ve also now begun work on marketing.
Over the next few weeks, I’m focusing on:
Understanding video game marketing on Steam
Getting up a nice trailer
Fixing all of the major bugs
Getting up a steam page
Creating a roadmap and getting the asks down of what I need to continue this full time
I’ll put up a link to the trailer when I’m feeling more confident about it, but right now, it has the correct feeling to it.
Aiming for the teaser demo & trailer release on Steam at the end of the month / early next month to try to understand user demand for this game.
